TUESDAY, 9TH SEP 2008 ; 2.43 A.M.
Just woke up in the middle of the night and looked up my mobile to make sure its not 3.30 A.M. yet. I switched on the T.V. to see a pleasant surprise, the match had just begun. Federer was serving at 40-0. Woh, thank god...didn't miss much. :) Looking at the play i was so relieved to see the old Federer back in action, moving swiftly around the court and making the opponent run... No seriously, it feels that Fed moves around like a snake and others are running to save their points.
6-2, first set in for Fed. You can actually feel the difference of play between this first set and the other matches played by Fed in earlier grand slams of 2008. Believe it or not, but Fed lost in 2 grand slam finals of 2008 not because the opponents were playing good but due to his unforced errors. I have not included the French Open finals above since Nadal is the undoubted king on clay court.
5-5, second set... Andy has come back really hard in this set to make the match more interesting. With the match moving on smoothly i just wondered how did i woke up at 2.43 when i had put my alarm for 3.30. I felt the statement from one of the bollywood movies coming true which means that if you really desire something from the bottom of your heart then all the powers of universe will help you in getting it. A similar desire of mine, to meet up Fed personally, will be fulfilled at some point of my life and i will make it happen at any cost. There you go, Fed broke Andy's serve to win the second set at 7-5. The frustration on Andy's face speaks it all.
This is the real Federer... the more tough fight you give, the more he will improve. Fed continues to serve the third set at 2-0. Are you a die-hard Fed fan? then you can actually feel the world ranking for Fed changing from 2 to 1 again. ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL... I am ready to forget the bad phase of 2008 since the ranking in the start and end of 2008 will still remain 1 (m really hoping that this happens). 4-0, third set and Federer is trying to reduce Andy's pain by winding up the match quickly...and by the time i complete my sentence the score moves on to 5-0.
Andy comes back in the match with 2 games back to back and serving to stay in the match. A double fault by Andy gives ADVANTAGE to Fed and the championship point but Andy saves the point with his excellent serve. Finally, Fed manages to break the point and there he goes down lying on the court with happiness of winning 5th consecutive US Open title and his 13th grand slam title. With the wish that Fed agains jumps to No. 1 ranking after this win, i will wind up my thoughts, go to sleep and meet up Roger Federer (in dreams for now) ... Adios.
